The Pépinières residency program is set up in close collaboration with national, regional and municipal authorities. Host institutes are responsible for training and for the presentation of the artists' projects. The cities where the host institutes are located, offer the artists' accommodation.

The organisation 'Pépinières Européennes pour jeunes artistes' encourages throughout Europe the artistic advancement and professional development of young artists. Prompting the youth’s mobility, the 'Pépinières' promotes the idea of culture as a vector of exchanges. The 'Pépinières' works with different concepts of artist in residence programs.
The mode of operation of the residencies encourages artists and art professionals to meet, to discuss and to exchange in order to eventually produce and lay out the possible representations of a social, European and cultural invention. The aim is to undertake an artistic project in a given space and within an allotted time. Artists may gain new skills and establish unforeseen relationships. By working in close collaboration with an artistic organisation, the artists will meet both the network’s national co-ordinators and the different cultural actors of the hosting country.
