Open Call: AiR in Portugal for Artists from Ukraine (female)
[A]Space, in partnership with Artists at Risk and Quinta das Relvas, is offering a four-week artistic residency in Portugal to four Ukrainian artists (female) from 1 to 28 February 2023, followed by an exhibition in Lisbon at [A]Space gallery.
They welcome applications from Ukrainian female visual artists at any stage of their career, based anywhere in Europe, whose work focuses on socio-political concerns, regardless of media or educational background. Travel costs to and from Portugal will be covered by the residency up to €600 per artist, based on a receipt. Residency participants will receive a daily allowance for food and will have access to discounted prices in local art shops.
They are delighted to partner with Quinta das Relvas, a non-profit organisation based in an 18th-century eco-farm in the village of Branca (Albergaria-a-Velha Council), Portugal. The farm has a rich natural and historic heritage where several fauna and flora live peacefully together. Four Ukrainian artists (female) are invited to stay in the eco-houses and use the studios and outdoor spaces, from 1 to 28 February 2023.
The residency programme includes:
- Welcome dinner, visit to the farm, visit to the village, introduction to local shops
- In-house materials on request (tables, easels, projector, screens, saws, hammers, etc.)
- Group and peer exchanges
- Individual tutoring
- Movie nights (art-related movies/documentaries)
- End-of-residency open day
Application requirements:
- Female visual artists
- Over 18 years of age
- Ukrainian nationality
- All artistic media and practices are welcome
- The practice must embrace a socio-political dimension
