Experience ARD by Lilian Cooper

I have just returned a couple of weeks ago from a short, intense residency in Dalen. It was the first time I have ever had an artist residency in the country I am living in. It was refreshing and productive to spend time in a completely different location. The large village/ small town of Dalen has a busy main street with shops, restaurants, cafes and a supermarket.

City Girl at Sea – on board with Cape Farewell

This year's expedition set sail around Shetland, Orkney and Fair Isle, Scotland’s most northern islands. 27 leading artists and scientists explored technologies, projects and practices supporting the resilience of Scotland’s island communities and their ecologies and cultures. Yasmine Ostendorf, a city girl from Amsterdam, had never sailed before she joined the Cape Farewell team. Here is her personal diary from her week at sea.

Cape Farewell expeditions

In 2001 the artist David Buckland created the Cape Farewell project to instigate a cultural response to climate change. Cape Farewell works now in partnership with scientific and cultural institutions to deliver an innovative climate programme of public engagement. "A certain artistic method may seem obvious in a modern atelier, but in a sweaty, buggy rainforest village with the local children scrutinizing your craft with curious befuddlement, the seed of reconsideration will grow.
