Upcoming deadline Rangøya International Cultural Centre, Norway
Rangøya International Cultural Centre (Rangøya internasjonale kultursenter AS) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to cultural exchange, artist residencies, and events that strengthen bilateral and international cultural relations. The centre hosts writers, poets, translators and other artists, and organises seminars, workshops and public cultural programmes. All artistic disciplines are welcome, with a particular emphasis on literature and literary dissemination. Likewise, the centre is open to participants from all regions, while maintaining a special focus on Nordic and Baltic collaboration.
Rangøya International Cultural Centre is structured as a non-profit limited liability company with a clear societal mission. It does not distribute dividends; all income is reinvested in activities that benefit the public and support artistic exchange.
Activities are based in a main house with four bedrooms, suitable for 2–4 residents, which also functions as a venue for workshops, intimate events and seminars. The centre is located by the renowned Atlantic coastline, surrounded by a recreational landscape offering opportunities for swimming, kayaking, hiking and other outdoor pursuits. The centre cultivates strong ties to the regional literary community and works actively to connect visiting artists with local writers, artists and cultural environments.
The free residency program is specifically designed to create a meeting place between nations, as it is a condition that at least two nationalities are present. Applications will be accepted from at least two writers, translators or artists from at least two countries applying together. The recommended maximum number of applicants is four. Multidiciplinary artistic cooperation is welcomed, but at least one of the applicants should work within literature.
Recommended length of the residency is one month, but the exact days can be agreed upon. Residents may be invited to participate in cultural events or public readings. Blog entries or similar reflections about the residency are also encouraged. Applications will be reviewed by the Centre's artistic council, prioritizing them with regard to the applicants' professional achievements and merits, plans for the residency and potential contribution to the local cultural scene. All nationalities (including locals) are welcome to apply, but applications with a Nordic and/or Baltic connection may be prioritized.
The area is peaceful and well suited for work retreats. There are no exact requirements for works produced during the residencies, but important outcomes are new artistic cooperation and community engagement. Public events are important, as well as interviews and blog events. A clear idea for additional outcomes may be presented in the application.
Each bedroom is equipped with an adjustable standing desk, providing a dedicated workspace for each resident. In addition, an extra writing room with two desks is available for collaborative work or visiting guests, and a smaller cabin with a desk offers a quiet space for solitude and concentrated writing.
The Cultural Centre is situated in what was once the main building of the fisherman’s farm and encompasses the western part of the small Rangøya island, connected to the main island of Averøy. It is accessible by car. The main building of the Centre hosts artist residencies for writers, translators, and other creative practitioners. It contains four bedrooms with desks, a spacious kitchen and living room, a workroom with two desks, and a small library.
The house has Wi-Fi, two bathrooms, and laundry facilities including a washing machine and dryer.

Paid by host:
Within the free residency program (subject to conditions), the rent is provided by the host. Also included is necessary help with local transport from the airport etc. and assistance in establishing contacts with the local cultural scene.
Paid by artist:
Travel and food and other personal expenses are normally paid for by the artist or through external funding.
Application guidelines:
- Applications will be accepted from at least two writers applying together. They need to represent at least two countries or nations. The recommended maximum number of co-applicants is four.

- Applications will be reviewed by the Centre's artistic council, prioritizing them based on the applicants' professional achievements and merits, plans for the residency and potential contribution to the local cultural scene.
- All nationalities (including locals) are welcome to apply, but applications with a Nordic and/or Baltic connection may be prioritized.
- If you are granted residency, a letter of confirmation will be issued, which can be used as documentation when applying for additional support.
- They organisers reserve the right to extend the deadline and/or include additional groups of applicants. In such a case, the applicants will be informed.
