Rib Summer Residency in Rotterdam

Rib invites artists, duos, or groups to submit a proposal for their summer 2024 residency program.

Rib is an artist-run space in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and welcomes artists to apply for their summer residency 2024 - in responds to the exhibition series The Last Terminal: Reflections on the Coming Apocalypse, at Rib since September 2021.

The Last Terminal: Reflection on the Coming Apocalypse
Considering Rib as a case study, The Last Terminal: Reflections on the Coming Apocalypse is an adventure of reflexivity as an intervention into given regimes of ends and means. In the process, many different techniques of construction and reconstruction emerge(d), some of which are extended and further developed. An open field where thinking and action merge and are simultaneous. In such a situation, there is no time nor the comfort of consolidating one's representative role, to become a spokesperson or a franchise for topicalities in art, which in the end have nothing to do with art but only politics.

It explores ways out of habitual thinking and acting in art, out of that which can be validated only if it corresponds to a normalized imaginative consensus: fantasies of an outside and otherness, while in fact none other than a repetition of a modernist dialectics without difference. It is a simultaneous operation on the level of infrastructure and artwork, artwork as infrastructure, repetition as recalcitrance as opposed to the image of difference repeated, open to its own interruption, institutional re-routing, time stretching and compression and more. All ways to nurture the possible: apocalyptic revelations.

In 2021 Rib took the film Le vent des amoureux by Albert Lamorisse and its postscript as a kick-starter for an unplanned program. The relation between the films internal language as well as the circumstances surrounding their production focused the journey. In essence the program is about nothing. In fact, ‘art about’ is itself the end of art and the real catastrophe. There are many parallel stories which came after that and are still emerging.
