In Solidarity - partnership statement

DutchCulture | TransArtists, Res Artis, On the Move, Artists at Risk and PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) joint statement

There has never been a more critical time to work together, join forces and pool resources.

Res Artis, On the Move, Artists at Risk, TransArtists and PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) have developed a partnership that aims to combine our unique areas of expertise in the international cultural mobility field to amplify aid and support of arts and cultural workers.

Res Artis will act as a global information portal via a dedicated section of resources on their website targeted at upskilling arts residencies to support artists in need.

TransArtists will continue to share calls for artists and cultural professionals, support mobility, international cooperation and freedom of expression through toolkits, articles and artist resources.

On the Move, together with its members, will continue in this context and beyond, to inform artists/culture professionals in need of relocation/support from Ukraine and other affected contexts, particularly through funding and access to (en)forced mobility-related information.

Artists at Risk can provide direct support to creatives seeking safety matching them with a host organisation.

PEN America’s Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) is a global network of more than 800 organizations with many resources and ways to help persecuted artists, assist at-risk artists in navigating the ecosystem of support and securing direct assistance, such as emergency funding and relocation opportunities. Additionally, ARC’s Safety Guide for Artists is a critical resource that shares strategies that artists can use to prepare for and navigate different kinds of risk, including physical, financial, and digital threats.

We have been heartened to see the quick response from the arts and cultural sector who are busy adapting their programming and fundraising to offer support to creatives in need.

Once our platforms are established in the coming weeks, we will be calling out to the sector to seek your input and feedback... stay tuned for more details soon!

Here you can find a selection of resource pages from our partners and colleagues from the field. This is by no means finished, nor final list - it is a collection of resources that we will update regularly.

Artist at risk, Finland

ARTISTS at RISK (AR) is a non-profit organization at the intersection of human rights and the arts. Since 2013 AR has been collaborating with arts non-profits and government funders to assist artists who are at risk politically and fleeing oppression and war in 26 locations in 19 countries globally.

Res Artis

Res Artis: Worldwide Network of Arts Residencies is a 28-year-old network of arts residency operators from around the globe. The network comprises more than 550 vetted members in over 75 countries. They operate from the international office in Australia. They are the worldwide professional body for the field, ensuring sustainability and growth by providing capacity-building tools for their members through face-to-face meetings and digital platforms. They aim to support and connect residencies, engage and advocate the importance of residencies in today’s society, and provide recommendations towards cultural mobility research and policy.

On the Move

On the Move provides information on cultural mobility that is clear, up-to-date, and always free to use. Drawing on the expertise of their network and partners, they source open calls for their website, maintain a collection of 60 funding guides, and point to external guidance on specialist topics like visa and tax law. They also publish thematic reports and publications, undertake research, and design mentoring programmes for artists and organisations. All their work is underpinned by a commitment to engaging with the context, environmental impacts and ethics of mobility.
