Residency Call at Socially Distant Art

Socially Distant Art (SDA) is seeking a new cohort of artists, creators, and organizers for a no-fee, accessibility-focused, virtual residency.

Socially Distant Art (SDA) is a digitally-based, grassroots arts residency program with a focus on cultivating accessibility and inclusivity in residents’ creative and organizational practices. The programme is shaped with an intersectional approach to accessibility, built upon innovations within mutual aid movements and the Disability Activism community.

Socially Distant Art (SDA) is seeking a new cohort of artists, creators, and organizers for a no-fee, accessibility-focused, virtual residency. Applications are open to national and international creatives of all experience levels and disciplines, including (but not limited to) visual artists, sound/audio artists, performers, composers, choreographers, writers, filmmakers, arts administrators, cultural leaders, and creative producers. Applicants should have a sincere commitment to creating a more accessible and inclusive arts world and are interested in developing and participating in a new, digitally-based arts community.

Overview

  • Fully online art residency with both synchronous and asynchronous content.
  • A 12-month workshop cycle for each incoming cohort, and residents can continue with the larger community beyond the initial year, if desired. Residents also have the flexibility to take a hiatus at any point, if needed.
  • The residency is a self-paced and flexible program, structured around workshops, community gatherings, collaborative projects, and digital exhibitions that can be engaged synchronously or asynchronously.

Resident Application Form includes 4 Sections:

  1. Name and Creative Disciplines
  2. Artwork and Art Projects
  3. Your Thoughts, Skills and Interests: a few paragraph-length questions
  4. Personal Information: website, social media links, etc.
  5. Anything Else?: A place for additional thoughts, feedback, and questions

Deadline for application is on Monday 21 March 2022 by 11:59 EST.  Applicants will be notified by 30 April 2022.
