Open Call 2027 - House as a Teacher

In 2027, Mustarinda’s program is centred on the theme "The House as a Teacher". Artists, researchers, and other professionals are invited to live and work together in the house for 2-6 weeks, and consider the following questions:

• What can be learned from living with and through the House?
• What do the seasons permit, prevent, and nourish?
• How can our context-based learnings about ecological living be shared more widely?

Successful applicants contribute a modest rent depending on the rooms and studios they use. Mustarinda is a non-profit association and as such, the organisers strive to keep rents affordable – they cover a portion of the house running costs. Residents are also invited to also contribute a few hours to weekly chores at the house.

Letters of Confirmation can be provided to successful applicants, e.g. for those seeking funding to support their stay, for slow travel funding, or for visa requirements.

Mustarinda has been a community in the making since 2009, and for this multidisciplinary residency they welcome all manner of practices, mediums, practitioners, and projects. Their activities are grounded in the local context, as well as contemporary art, boundary-crossing research, practical experimentation, communication, education, volunteering, collectivity, and events. They are committed to fostering an accessible, diverse, safe, and supportive residency environment.

The house can accommodate 7–8 residents at a time. The residency is supported by a House Group who work voluntarily to care for the house throughout the year, and take on rotating shifts as housekeepers.

One family room is available in each residency period. One pet-friendly room is available in each residency period. If you wish to participate with a carer or assistant who requires an additional room, please indicate this in your application, along with the number of rooms needed. If you’re part of a collective, please indicate the number of rooms needed.

• Studio 1: 44 m2 workspace + bedroom: 470 € / month (275 € / two weeks, 700 € / 6 weeks)
• Studio 2: 14 m2 workspace + bedroom: 410 € / month (240 € / two weeks, 610 € / 6 weeks)
• Studio 3: 10 m2 workspace + bedroom: 390 € / month (210 € / two weeks, 580 € / 6 weeks)
• Studio 4: 70 m2 workspace + bedroom: 540 € / month (300 € / two weeks, 810 € /6 weeks) not available in February
• Writers’ rooms 12–16 m2 (bedrooms without studios): 330 € / month (190 € / 2 weeks, 490 € /6 weeks )

It can be possible for bedrooms to be shared with a partner, colleague, family member or carer. This needs to be mentioned in the application and approved by the housekeeper before the residency begins. Extra person in the same room + 190 € / month.
