Online Event: Learning from Indonesian Residencies with DutchCulture | TransArtists
What can we learn from artist residencies and hospitality in Indonesia? The question poses itself because artist residencies in Indonesia may not always be arranged in a ‘conventional’ way – whatever that means from a trans-local perspective. Rather, a residency is a more fluid concept and collective effort that can teach us a lot about hosting and being hosted.
Therefore, we invited Amy Zahrawaan from Gudskul and Arie Syarifuddin from Jatiwangi Art Factory for an in-depth conversation. This webinar was organised to get to know the residencies these speakers represent and their position in the Indonesian artistic field, critically analyse the concept of ‘artist-in-residence’, shine a light on practicalities to consider before going to Indonesia for a residency, and address expectations Gudskul and Jatiwangi Art Factory may have for international collaborations.
This webinar was just a beginning, an invitation to learn more about the field from local representatives, or cultural professionals who visited Indonesia. A second webinar is planned for after summer, and in the meantime, we are working on mapping the residencies in Indonesia and updating the TransArtists database accordingly. We will inform you eventually with the developings.
