Culture Moves Europe: Call for residency hosts 2026-2027

Culture Moves Europe is the mobility scheme funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union and implemented by the Goethe-Institut. The call for residency hosts provides financial support to legal entities wishing to host artists and cultural professionals for a residency project. The residency should host between 1 and 5 residents, and it should follow two of these objectives: to learn, to create, to explore, to connect, or to transform.

This call has two phases: Phase 1: Submission of the application describing the residency project, together with the required supporting documents about the legal entity; Phase 2: If selected in Phase 1, applicants can proceed to choose the artists and cultural professionals who will be their residents. And then complete the second and final part of the application.

After signing the grant agreement, hosts can carry out their residency from 12 April 2027 until 31 March 2028. The residency duration can range between 21 and 90 days.

The application is open to legal entities that:

  • are registered and based in one of the Creative Europe countries, including the overseas countries and territories and outermost regions
  • have the capacity to host the proposed residency project with artists and cultural professionals from other Creative Europe countries
  • regardless of being a newly or well-established entity, applicants must be active in one of the eligible sectors: architecture, cultural heritage, design and fashion design, literature, music, performing arts, and visual arts.

The residency grant offers financial support to the host and each resident:

To the host

  • Hosting allowance: €50 per day, per resident.
  • Accessibility support (if applicable): A fixed amount of €375, €675 or €1.200, based on the residency duration category, to help cover possible extra costs related to the resident’s accessibility needs.

To each resident

  • Daily allowance: €30 per day, per resident.
  • Travel allowance: €400 for travel distances under 5.000 km and €800 for travel distances from 5.000 km. The travel distance is calculated automatically in the application form, based on a one-way straight line. The European Commission distance calculator may nevertheless be used for indicative estimates.

If applicable, there is additional funding (top-ups) available:

  • Green mobility top-up: €400
  • Overseas countries and territories / Outermost regions (OCT/OR) top-up: €175
  • Family top-up: 200 per child under 18 years old
  • Visa top-up: €120
Accessibility support (if applicable): A fixed amount of €375, €675 or €1.200, based on the duration of the project. Financial support for personal assistance or sign language interpretation. The possibility to request air travel for distances below 600 km

Hosts must request the applicable top-ups and accessibility support when filling in their residency info card (phase 2). These cannot be requested at a later stage.

The deadline for applying is 18 January 2027. The application form is available on the Goethe-Application Portal after registration.
