Celebrating 40 years HMK

TransArtists AiR NL congratulates Hotel Mariakapel

TransArtists AiR NL congratulates Hotel Mariakapel's 40 - year celebration this summer. The residency and art space during the past four decades, kept guarding space for art and artists in favour of experiment, collaboration and situated practices within the locality of Hoorn.

"In 1983, artists' initiative De Achterstraat, initiated by Joep Neefjes, moved into the chapel, and art has not disappeared from the centuries-old building since. After several years of the chapel being used by the Sandberg Institute as a second location, in 2003 Hotel Maria Kapel was finally established by Danielle van Zuijlen and Bart Lodewijks; Hoorn's art space with the statue of De Liggende Man on the roof."

HMK celebrates with a dive into the archive bringing the rich history of the chapel to the surface, and an exhibition program still on view until July 22. Read all about it here >
