Description

Zam Contemporary is an interdisciplinary artist-run initiative founded by artist Mehregan Meysami, located in Stockholm Region, Sweden, creating a meeting point between the constructs of West and non-West, to come together and think together and collectively expand discourses on epistemological diversity, global justice, solidarity, and decolonial practices, beyond and outside the institutional and conventional realm.
Zam Contemporary is initiated to dedicate a platform to curators, artists, writers, cultural workers, who are often erased and/or excluded from society, due to the socio-political climate, their ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, political or social philosophy.

The residency program at Zam Contemporary offers a discursive space, with the objective of connecting the local with the trans-local and international culture, by embracing the plurality of epistemologies as a mean of decolonizing the singularity of knowledge. Zam Contemporary provides artists, art professionals, and researchers the opportunity to simply have space and time to focus on their work, in a peaceful and tranquil environment overlooking a lake that is frozen during the winter months, offering ice skating rings.

Outcome

Zam AiR is a reasearch-based residency, allowing the artists unconditional freedom, to fill in their stay and time according to their needs. However, the residency program includes follow-ups with the artists and field trips to the natural, historical and industrial heritage of the region.

Studio Information

Zam Residency offers a fully renovated 27 square meters living/working studio, in a tranquil space at the heart of nature with a spectacular view over the Drevviken lake.
