Women's Studio Workshop
Women’s Studio Workshop envisions a society where women’s visual art is integral to the cultural mainstream and permanently recorded in history.
Their mission is to operate and maintain an artists’ workspace that encourages the voice and vision of individual women and trans, intersex, nonbinary and genderfluid artists. We provide professional opportunities for artists at various stages of their careers and promote programs designed to stimulate public involvement, awareness, and support for the visual arts. WSW maintains facilities for etching, letterpress, papermaking, book arts, silkscreen, 3D work, ceramics, and photography. Our studios are housed in an historic building, located in the foothills of the Hudson Valley’s Shawangunk Mountains, one hour north of New York City. The studios are extensively equipped and well-maintained. Artists can apply for internships or residencies, take workshops, rent the studios, or schedule private instruction.
A residency at WSW is an opportunity for artists to create new work and fully immerse themselves in WSW’s supportive environment. We invite applications from artists at any stage of their careers. This residency gives artists the gift of time, an uninterrupted period to live and work away from the stresses of daily life. Artists may choose to work in any one or more of our studios: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, darkroom photography, or ceramics. Women's Studio Workshop holds 10 different types of residencies throughout the year, ranging from 4 - 10 weeks in length. Some residencies are for exploration, some are for production of an editioned artist's book, and some have an educational component.
Collaborative residencies are available however the stipend must be split between the group.
Partners and children are welcome through our Parent Residency Grant.
Artists are provided with private bedrooms in shared apartments on our campus.
