Application guidelines:

The fellowship is open to a practicing artist, architect, or designer currently unaffiliated with the School, nominated by a member of the Sam Fox School faculty. This position requires a significant national and international exhibition record, teaching experience, and an MFA or equivalent.

A letter of nomination along with a CV (including exhibition history) and images of work of the proposed Fellow should be submitted to:

Application Deadline: Nominations must be received by October 1, 2011. Once the Fellow has been selected, an exhibition proposal will be due upon acceptance, at which time schedules will be established for exhibition design, signage, and publication plans.

Description

Fellows are required to be in residence for two months in the spring, during which they will be expected to work with faculty and students in the College and Graduate School of Art or the College of Architecture and the Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design by team-teaching a course, offering a graduate seminar, or sponsoring an independent study.

The residency will culminate in an exhibition of the fellow’s work, preferably but not necessarily a site-specific installation, at the School’s Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in the year following the residency period. A portion of the work may be produced during their residency at the School. So, the idea is: teach and make art during the residence, followed up by an exhibition.
Outcome

During the residence, the Fellow teaches a seminar and works with the art students (three days a week) at the Washington University Graduate School of Art and develops an exhibition with the nominating faculty member.

The nominating faculty member will work with the fellow and Museum staff to organize and curate the exhibition. A public lecture, in the form of a presentation, panel discussion, or gallery talk, held in conjunction with the exhibition is an expected component of the fellowship.
