Application guidelines:

Professional writers, authors and members of the literary community are eligible to apply. A working plan with a literary project is required. Please note that if you should require a visa for Finland, you will have to get that yourself.

Description

Writers’ House Villa Kivi runs Writers’ Residency in the side building of the Villa Kivi Estate, Linnunlaulu Villa Area, downtown Helsinki.
Professional authors, writers and members of the literary community, who are not residents of Uusimaa province, Finland, are eligible to apply both for the Residency and the short-term accommodation. Applications for the longer-term Residency rooms require a working plan for a literary project during the Residency.
There is no deadline for applications but they are considered as received and decisions will be made within one month of reception of the application. You can apply either for a one month residency (in Aleksis, one or two persons) or a two week residency (Eino, one person) or both.

You can write your application in Finnish, Swedish or English in the Application Form.

Accommodation Information

There are two Residency rooms, Aleksis and Eino. Both rooms have a bed suitable for one (Eino) or two (Aleksis) persons, a writing desk and a chair. The furniture is basic. Linen and towels are included.
There is a shared kitchen and a bathroom/toilet. The kitchen is equipped with e.g. fridge, filter coffee machine, an electric hot water pot, a toaster, a micro-wave oven and common utensils for cooking and eating. Residency guests have also access to a washing machine and a bicycle.
Please note that no pets are allowed.

Studio Information

Aleksis (13.5 m2) accommodates 1-2 persones. There is a view to the Töölönlahti Bay. Residency period for Aleksis is one month, from the first day until the last day of each calendar month. The Residency fee is 990 € per month, additional fee 100 € for a second person.

Eino (9,5 m2) accommodates one person. Residency period for Eino is two weeks, beginning and ending on every second Wednesday. The Residency fee is 550 € for two weeks.

Technical Information

There is a free wifi available.
Residency guests have also access to a washing machine and a bicycle.

Location

Writers's House Villa Kivi is a center for authors and writers’ societies in Linnunlaulu downtown Helsinki in the lash of the green park on the shore of the Töölönlahti bay. Villa Kivi has a ballroom and 14 studios for writers as well as three residency guest rooms for artists visiting Helsinki.
The 1890 built villa is owned and operated by Kivi-talo foundation founded in 1985. The main purpose is to improve the working conditions and opportunities of authors as well as to mitigate their interactions and correspondence to their readers.
