Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art is a public institution that has been supporting, collecting, documenting and presenting Polish and international art since 1985. U–jazdowski is located in a former royal residence, reconstructed to its current shape in the 1980s.
Art residencies play an important role in the activity of U-jazdowski. Since 2002, they have hosted in Warsaw over 250 art professionals, curators, artists, researchers, organisers, individuals and collectives representing more than 50 countries from Europe, Asia, North America, South America and Africa.
Since 2002, they have continually developed and re-defined the residency programme, sustaining an up-to-date critical reflection on the capacities of residencies as an artistic and instituting practice. The organizers have used their long-standing experience to implement courageous programmes responding to ever-changing relations between creators, organisations and social environment. In the frame of these programmes, the participating artists and curators are able to research and experiment in selected fields.
Residents are selected only on the basis of curatorial invitation and partner institutions’ recommendations which has been positively evaluated by the U-jazdowski Residencies’ team and invited experts. They do not accept direct applications for residency. Those interested can try applying to the relevant partners listed on the website, if one is eligible. Open calls are held irregularly and announced on the U–jazdowski website and U–jazdowski Residencies Facebook page.
The Residency Programme is financially supported by the City of Warsaw.
