Each selected collective will receive a total gross contribution of € 4,000, all-inclusive, intended to cover: artistic research fee; round-trip travel expenses to Genoa; accommodation and subsistence for the entire duration of the residency. The contribution is awarded to the collective as a whole, which assumes responsibility for its internal allocation.If a single interdisciplinary collective of up to six members is selected, the total gross contribution will amount to € 8,000, also all-inclusive.

Description

Founded as a multidisciplinary research group in 2008 between Cagliari, Genoa and Milan, and established as a Social Promotion Association in 2012, U-BOOT Lab develops culture-based social innovation projects through an approach grounded in the hybridisation of artistic and scientific research as a methodology for active community engagement. Its research activities focus on territories that are ecologically, physically and socially vulnerable, with the aim of transforming fragilities into opportunities, fostering awareness and local cultural enrichment, and generating long-term socio-economic impact.

The association develops projects that stimulate shared debate in order to strengthen collective awareness of local resources and potential, contributing to the improvement of territories and the quality of life of their inhabitants. It understands culture in an inclusive sense and adopts an action-research approach. U-BOOT Lab collaborates with public and private institutions, associations, groups and independent professionals operating in related fields, and implements its projects through investigative, participatory and dissemination tools selected according to each specific context: workshops, artistic and scientific research residencies, participatory festivals and culture-based territorial regeneration projects.

Outcome

The outcomes of the residency will take shape as a multichannel artistic installation hosted by Palazzo Ducale Genova, a sound performance inside the port, and a book. Ownership of the works and productions developed within the framework of the residency, as well as the use of materials and any potential access to non-public datasets, will be regulated by specific agreements, in compliance with applicable regulations and in accordance with the guidelines of the institutional partners involved.

Studio Information

Workspaces are distributed between Palazzo Ducale and the experimental marine station of CNR-IAS, located within the port. In parallel, a navigation period is planned aboard operational cargo vessels of the Grendi Group.

Technical Information

During the residency, participants will be provided with:

  • access to scientific and institutional datasets from official platforms
    and sources related to maritime logistics and port flows;
  • scientific guidance for the interpretation of environmental
    and logistical data;
  • artistic mentoring within the sound-based and data-driven
    visual research fields;
  • curatorial support in the development of the research and its installation
    format;
  • capacity-building activities grounded in a systemic design approach
    inspired by the principles of the New European Bauhaus;
  • coordination and permit facilitation for access to the operational port
    and navigation;
  • shared workspace at Palazzo Ducale Genova;
  •  logistical assistance related to accommodation.
  • Specific technical requirements may be discussed with the curatorial team
    and mentors during the residency.
