Textile Center Hoejer
Textile Center Hoejer
The Digital Weaving Residency at Textile Center Højer provides artists, designers and weavers with access to professional weaving facilities centred around two TC2 digital jacquard looms, ALFA and BETA. The programme supports the development of woven artworks, research projects and large-scale textile works.
Residents work independently on their own projects while becoming part of a professional textile environment that encourages knowledge exchange and experimentation. The residency is particularly suited to practitioners with experience in digital jacquard weaving TC2.
Textile Center Højer was founded through a collective initiative involving local cultural actors, textile professionals, advisors and partner organisations with a shared ambition to establish an international centre for textile art and textile knowledge in Højer, Denmark. The initiative builds on the area’s cultural heritage, local craft traditions and the broader potential of textile practice as a field for artistic development, research and international exchange.
Textile Center Højer offers a unique opportunity for artists, designers and weavers to work intensively within a focused workshop environment, where craftsmanship meets digital possibilities on the TC2 looms. Our facilities centre around two TC2 digital jacquard looms, which allows residents to work between digital design and material exploration, making it possible to develop complex patterns and experimental textile constructions. Located in the historic town of Højer, next to the Wadden Sea in Southern Denmark, the residency is set within an open marshland landscape shaped by nature, cultural heritage and textile history. The programme welcomes both professional and recently graduated practitioners and encourages both experimentation and the realisation of large scale textile works. Residents are expected to be able to work independently on the TC2 digital jacquard looms. Applicants should therefore have prior experience with TC2 weaving, including the preparation of files and operation of the loom. As part of the application, please describe your experience with TC2 weaving, including previous projects, courses, workshops, educational training, or other relevant experience.
The residency provides time, space and technical facilities for the development of textile projects. Outcomes vary according to each resident's practice and may include research, experimentation, sampling, prototyping, artistic works, design development, exhibitions, publications or other forms of professional textile production.
Textile Center Højer has a close collaboration with Kiers Gaard and Fiskerhuset, which offers affordable rooms within walking distance of the workshop. The accommodation includes access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Højer also has a range of other accommodation options, and we are happy to guide residents towards suitable places to stay depending on the duration and needs of their residency.
Residents work in a spacious professional textile workshop in the small historic town of Højer, surrounded by open marshland, quiet streets and the landscape of the Wadden Sea. The workshop is centred around two TC2 digital jacquard looms, ALFA and BETA, offering a focused environment for weaving, material exploration and textile development.
BETA is equipped with a standard warp, while ALFA can be prepared with individual warp setups. The workshop includes weaving equipment, worktables, yarn storage, access to a dyeing workshop and space for sampling, production and the realisation of larger textile works.
The residency is intended for experienced TC2 users who can work independently on the looms. Applicants are asked to describe their previous experience with TC2 weaving, including professional practice, courses or other relevant training. Residents must provide their own materials. Textile Center Højer provides access to the looms, workshop facilities and basic technical support.
