- up to 200 euros are provided for traveling within Europe, and 400 euros for traveling outside of Europe. In case you are based within a radius of 1,000 kilometers, we highly recommend to travel by train or bus.

Application guidelines:

Artists who would like to be considered as candidates, are asked to submit the following documents in English (max. 10 MB) with the subject “Artist in Residence 2022” to [email protected]

- The fully completed application form (download)
- A professional CV detailing recent projects, exhibitions, workshops and residencies (max. 2 pages).
- Up to five examples of previous projects (realized in public space), that refer to the proposed project.
- A work description (max. 3,000 characters incl. blanks).

For more information, please see the fact sheet (download) and note that only one platform is available for your project. The intervention can also take place in the Seestadt district. A sketch of the installation or a schedule of the planned intervention is not mandatory but welcome, if it is helpful for the comprehension of the project. studio das weisse haus is a residence and studio program for international, as well as for local artists, curators, theorists and journalists, started by the art association das weisse haus in 2013 in Vienna. studio das weisse haus aims to support and promote emerging professionals involved in the domain of fine and media arts by means of providing them with a space for presentation, artistic creation and development of theoretical discourse. The main purpose of the program is to create a place, where local and international artists, curators and theorists can live and work together and to encourage an intercultural and cross-disciplinary exchange between the participants.

studio das weisse haus, a residency and studio program founded by the art association das weisse haus in 2013 in Vienna, is offering residencies for young international artists who work and / or have academic experience in the fields of fine arts, photography or media arts.

2022: Artists in Residence go Public Space
studio das weisse haus, in cooperation with Notgalerie Seestadt – DREAM ESTATE, is announcing a 4-month residency for 2 international artists.

April,1 – July 30, 2022

Residency period #2
May 15 – September 15, 2022

The aim of the stay is to realize a project in public space, respectively on the platform Dream Estate. Furthermore, the participating artists will be supported with time, space, and networking opportunities. The candidates are selected by a call for submissions according to the proposed project.

Each residency includes
- a monthly allowance, travel and production budget
- the realization of the proposed project at Notgalerie Seestadt – DREAM ESTATE. Depending on the respective proposal, the first months can be used for research on site and the specification of the submission, whereas the realization is supposed to take place towards the end of the residency.
- networking opportunities.
- curatorial and technical support as well as consultation from the team of studio das weisse haus and Notgalerie Seestadt – DREAM ESTATE.

Criteria
This call for submissions is addressed to international artists who, preferably have experiences with projects in public space––in the form of installations, performances, temporary interventions or participatory projects. However, the main selection criteria will be the proposed project and its feasibility, as well as the artist’s experience according to previous projects. studio das weisse haus and DREAM ESTATE favor proposals that meet their general objectives and ensure high quality and clarity. We also encourage socially-engaged and participatory projects that take place in the urban space.

Outcome

Within our program, they aim to link the Artists in Residence to the Viennese art scene and provide them with an insight into the local institutional environment. By means of social events, presentations and guided tours, we connect the Artists in Residence with local artists, curators and the cultural community of the City of Vienna.

They organize studio visits, admittance to various events, exhibition previews, guided tours and other events, that link the Artists in Residence to the local art community.

At the end of the residency period, the Artist in Residence will present a recent project in form of an exhibition, screening, lecture or by other means of presentation.

Studio Information

In addition, they provide a private studio space in the first district, where 7 ateliers for Vienna based artists are located.

Accommodation Information

Currently, the offer includes a private apartment in central location, with a combined kitchen-living room, a bed recess and bathroom facilities.
