If the artist would like to donate a work at the end of their residency and it is sold 50% of the money will go towards the visiting artist program and 50% will be offered to the artist to put towards a return residency or purchase another artist’s work. The work is hang in the dining room and Maelor opens its doors in summer to sell the works to passing tourists.

The artist pays a fee for the residency, their own food and transport, materials and any other personal expenses.
There is a fee to work in Veronica Calarco's print studio and she is also happy to teach printmaking at all levels.

Application guidelines:

Stiwdio Maelor accepts applications at all times and will respond with a offer within a week of applying. An official application form is required. The simple application covers the type of residency you require and asks for information about yourself, your work and your aims.

Description

Stiwdio Maelor was setablished in 2014 and provides the opportunity for all creatives to fully immerse themselves in their work. We offer residencies of between 1 week to 2 months and welcome artists, writers and musicians of all kinds to apply as individual applicants or as part of a group. Stiwdio Maelor is situated on the Afon Dulus in an ex-mining village in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. Stiwdio Maelor has a gallery and Dr Veronica Calarco's print studio.

Outcome

This residency is fundamentally about process rather than production. During the residency you can explore the area and be inspired, test a new idea or way of working, or use to the time get away from the daily routines of the studio. This resource offers you the opportunity to invest focused time and thought in your practice without the demands or expectations of making resolved new works.

Accommodation Information

Each creative is provide with their own studio with attached bedroom.
There is a small bedroom/studio for creatives who do not need a separate studio.
Artists share the kitchen, separate dining room and bathroom.

Studio Information

There are three studios with attached bedrooms:
The Attic space is a very large studio with four tables and chairs, a lounge area with two armchairs and fireplace. The bedroom has a double bed, 2 bedside drawers, chair and a chest of draws. It is suitable for a single or a couple
Studio Pedwar has a medium size studio space with three tables and two chairs. The bedroom has a double bed and armchair.
Studio Chwech has a small/medium size studio space with two tables and two chairs. The bedroom has a double bed, bedside drawer and and armchair. This room is suitable for a writer or an artist who tends to work smaller or outdoors.
A studio/bedroom: Ystafell Ychnawnegol is Welsh for spare room. Ychnawnegol is a room with a single bed, a table and a chair. This room is suitable for a writer who doesn’t need a separate studio or an artist who intends to work outdoors. It is also suitable as a studio for a couple who require a shared bedroom but two studios and can be used with Studio Pedwar or Chwech.
Communal Spaces:
A fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and a cosy dining room with a fire, filled with artwork donated by previous artists.

Maelor runs a small gallery with regular exhibitions. Stiwdio Maelor also hosts Dr Veronica Calarco print studio.
