The Sointula Art Shed Artist Residency Program
An artist residency in a small cottage in the remote fishing village of Sointula, BC. The Sointula Art Shed welcomes writers, musicians, visual and performing artists from around the world to apply for this residency.
Sointula has an extremely rich and unique culture and history, as it was originally settled by Finnish socialist utopians led by Matti Kurika in 1901. Sointula is a small fishing village on Malcolm Island, which is located off of Port McNeill, Northern Vancouver Island, on the west coast of Canda, and a residency here is ideal for those artists who seek easy access to nature, quiet and few distractions.
In addition to offering every artist an opportunity to show their work in the Window Gallery, the organizers also help connect interested artists with various members of the local community, and can organize various forms of outreach such as open studios, workshops, studio visits, etc.
The residency cottage consists of a small kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and a deck, with access to a studio space in our shed, which is right next door. The cottage is fully furnished and equipped with dishes, towels and bedding.
A studio/work space that can be used by various visual artists, as well as a covered outdoor area for those who need it. They can also arrange for various other specialized studio needs, as requested.
