Description

Shannaghe is a solo residency that supports literary, artistic, and environmental work and inquiry. In particular, they're interested in work that draws on the powers of introspection, storytelling, observation, and/or research; affirms community; reshapes thinking; and/or maybe even delights. They welcome BPOC and LGBTQ+ voices, emerging and established artists , environmentalists, researchers, and practitioners from the U.S. and beyond for stays of up to one month.

Shannaghe offers residencies throughout the year, with the exception of August. It's a solo experience: The resident lives and works in a renovated horse barn, two miles outside of downtown Belfast, Maine, which is accessible via a walkable and bike-able Rail Trail. While they provide cooking basics, the resident is responsible for food and also transportation. (Shannaghe provides transportation for groceries and also to and from Bangor Airport. There are other transportation options, as well). .

Outcome

Shannaghe does not expect specific outcomes from the residency. They ask that residents cite the residency as a source of support, and they encourage residents to share their work with the community.

Studio Information

The Shannaghe residence is a work-live space. Some of our residents work at the desk in the loft; others prefer the sunny downstairs space. Good connectivity and internet. They can't accommodate wet media at this point.
