Description

Rockland Residency is founded by artists for artists. They hope to provide basic needs for our residents for free, so that the artiss can focus on their creative process: accommodations, studios, prepared meals, and a co-created culture of 10 artists and staff. They strive for a welcoming, diverse environment with musicians, writers, visual artists and more. Rockland aims to support People of Color and LGBTQ+ folks when selecting applicants by using a Selection Committee comprised of representatives from these groups. They expect the residents to learn more about their creative selves and needs by participating at Rockland, deepening their commitment to their art. They expect full participation, meaning being present on site and engaged in creative thinking or your studio practice.

Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 Residencies
Duration: 3-weeks: October 4-25, 2022 or 3-weeks: January 9-30, 2023.

Rockland expects its residents to use their time in any way they believe will benefit their creative process. There are no obligations tied to this opportunity. 8 Residents (Fall) and 6 Residents (Winter) will work at Rockland Woods along with 1-2 staff. Rockland Staff are also artists, working in their studios during residency. They gather for chef-prepared dinner followed by informal presentations (optional) in the evening.

Applicants:
-Must be 25+ years of age
-Cannot be currently enrolled as a student as a candidate for BFA or MFA degree
-International artists are responsible for obtaining any necessary documentation for travel between countries. Rockland can provide a letter of purpose when necessary.
- They expect inclusivity. Rockland reserves the right to remove any resident who does not provide an atmosphere of respect and safety for other residents and Rockland Woods.

Selection Committee members will be experts in the fields of music, writing and visual art. Rockland provides opportunity to dedicated artists with exceptionally strong work samples. In addition to innovative samples, a successful application will be genuine and thought provoking. Resumes are not required. They accept emerging and established artists.

Most accommodations are private; only on occasion do they ask if residents are comfortable to share sleeping space if they have other private studios to occupy.
