The residency is an independent, artist-run, non-profit project that depends on sharing the costs generated by the project itself, the famous fee, which does not involve profits. They can provide a letter of invitation for accepted residents who wish to seek funding or apply for grants on their own. In some cases, they can initiate a dialogue in this regard, even if only to consider the feasibility of participation in future editions.

They continue to work towards the social, racial, and territorial inclusion of the project, offering five full grants for three categories: Black and/or Indigenous people; trans and/or gender-dissident people; and people who live in the peripheries, rural areas, or in situations of refuge.

Investment (shared rooms, between 2 and 5 beds per room)

  • Normal price - Global South: R$ 2,500

If you are interested in a single room, there will be an additional charge of 30%. Children are welcome, paying 50% of the fee.

Residência São João fosters creative processes, production of works of art, collaboration among participants, and interaction with the surrounding rural environment. On the other hand, it focuses on regional development by promoting local knowledge and arts, prioritizing the participation of racialized artists through scholarships and curatorial collaborations.

Verãozão | Summer Residency

Verãozão is a time when we give ourselves to fruition, while taking care of our creativity, in close proximity to ourselves and the Earth. When the rains have already given so much to the waterfalls and are resting under the sign of the sun, we meet at Fazenda São João for the “Verãozão” immersion.

The organisers will form a multidisciplinary group of about 30 people, including artists from all disciplines (dancers, filmmakers, musicians, visual artists, sound artists, conceptual artists...), researchers, and others interested in this context. Applications from farmers, gardeners, cooks, therapists, artists, etc. are welcome—all applications will be carefully evaluated!
 

Accommodation Information

The Residency takes place in two neighboring spaces: the historical headquarters of Fazenda São João and at Casa Figueira, an old stable that has been renovated and converted into a permanent residence with four rooms—which can be single or double—spacious shared workspaces, and outdoor leisure areas.

Shared accommodation in the 1853 historic house “Sede” (shared rooms: 2-5 beds per room) and in “Casa Figueira” (double or single rooms). Casa Figueira is a 15-minute walk from Sede and can accommodate up to 8 people.

Studio Information

Spaces for work and leisure (desks, studio for visual artists, basic sound recording equipment, large outdoor spaces including a garden, orchard, and a small chapel for more intimate moments).
