Artists are responsible for securing finances for their travel, material, and residency costs. The organisers can assist in providing letters of support and invitation to funding organisations and featuring their logos in raum AU's publications, social medias and website.

Application guidelines:

It is expected to receive an entire project description of what you are planning to do, how does your work concern your contemporaries, how you plan to involve them, what is it what you are looking for and please put down detailed how you imagine to achieve all of your plans and which support you expect from the residency organization. The document is to be sent to their e-mail address in one PDF file, describing all the above mentioned.

Description

raum AU is a physical and mental entity that as a potential public institution presents an appropriate addition to any urban environment – to coordinate the cities non-governmental production and to support active citizenship.
Within the Arte Utile residency we try to activate the cultural heritage of Arte Utile by offering it to be discussed, researched, analysed and debated. Young theoreticians and artists are welcome to enter the artists archives. The AU residency can be a simple residency, where young artists can experiment their own AU arguments, but can be extended to a proper study of an artists opus and with that materials, that usually are left open, undone and never executed. Young, curious and open artists of every corner of the world are welcome to study the ideas of Arte Utile and to work in our social environment, a tiny city next to the Austrian border.

Forms included but not limited to exhibition, happening, talks, public intervention, lecturing, etc.

Accommodation Information

The apartment consists of one room (25 qm) and one bathroom (5 qm) with shower, toilette and bidet. Possibilities to cook are available at the raum AU, Bistros, Cafes and a bakery are at 2-3minutes walk, be it from the apartment or the raum AU. They host 1 resident at once. Artist-couples can be accommodated, if they share the same bed (additional fees apply).

Technical Information

Basic technical equipment (you have the right to use the equipment when available): 1 video-projector, 3 dvd players, 1 loudspeakers, 2 small color TV-sets, 1 scanner up to A3, digitalizing equipment for VHS, Audiocasettes and Audio-CDs, Printer A4. Basic tools like hammer, saw, screwdriver, monkey wrench, screws, bulbs and lighting, white wall painting, roller are available. The central setting of the place make the other amenities accessible.

Location

The raum AU, which hosts the studio, the exhibition space as well as the location for workshops, etc.. is located ca. 350 meters from the city centre, respectively, the apartment (5 minutes walk). In the same house on the same areal, situated next to the local primary school and kinder-garden, but as well only some meters more from the local middle school and faculty of polymere technologies. Other creatives, individuals or groups have their headquarters, meeting spaces and studios in the house, which usually is a very motivating surrounding for any creative worker.
