Description

Considering the challenges and the opportunities of the Georgian contemporary cultural scene, a multidisciplinary initiative group established Propaganda.network in 2013, committed to the development of contemporary (visual) arts. However, since that period and especially from 2017 onward, organisation’s multidisciplinary profile has resulted in developing the projects which delve into wider cultural contexts.
The objectives of Propaganda.network:

  • rising awareness about both: intrinsic and extrinsic values of arts;
  • engaging international audiences in the Georgian contemporary art scene and facilitating transnational mobility of the artists and arts professionals;
  • supporting interdisciplinary projects among the representatives of the arts world and the representatives of other fields, initiating the creation of experimental projects and new business models;
  • providing critical analysis of the current art processes and initiating respective theoretical and practical research projects.

Tbilisi Residencies is the main residency subprogramme by Propaganda.network. Its hosts artists, curators and art researchers living abroad and, as a result, contributes to bringing international artistic experiences to Georgia.

The studios are located at Stamba Hotel (Stamba D Block); if accommodation is granted, the resident is usually placed within a walking distance from Stamba D Block.

While working at Stamba D Block, residents have the opportunity to network with colleagues and, in general, with various representatives of the Georgian art scene; further, they can use different resources of Propaganda (neon and print workshop; curatorial consulting, etc.)

Outcome

Experience sharing workshops and talks / individual show or participating in group exhibition / physical contribution to the contemporary visual art archive.

Studio Information

Studio spaces (both: individual and collective studios) are located in 3 min. walk from accommodation location, at Stamba cultural multiplex. Individual studios (up to 30 sq.m.) are almost empty (a chair and a table) and stand ready to be transformed into new working environment, considering the needs of the future residents. On the same floor, there is the design and silk print studio. In addition to the thematic studios under Propaganda.network (such as the Studio for Experimental Music and Sonic Arts), Stamba venue hosts other creative projects as well. Therefore, the residents of Tbilisi Residency programme will have the chance to socialize and collaborate with other creative professionals. Nearby Stamba cultural multiplex (2 min. walk) Propaganda operates neon studio.

Accommodation Information

The residency is located on the ground floor of a three-floor house. At present there are two bedrooms (each room can accommodate 2 persons). The dining room, the kitchen and the bathroom is shared among the residents.

4 residents at once can be hosted. Duo's and groups can apply. Residents can come with a non-artist partner.

Technical Information

Small-scale construction tools and equipment; neon production equipment. (other materials/facilities needed for developing the artwork/research can be provided by Propaganda in the frames of “Tbilisi Residencies Funding Scheme” (please, refer to the application form)).

Location

The accommodation facility of “Tbilisi Residencies” is located at one of the smallest streets in the heart of Tbilisi. The street encompasses bars, amongst them LGBT bars and fast-food spots; the wider neighborhood includes supermarkets, restaurants, cultural multiplex (Stamba D Block), pharmacies, cinemas, metro station, etc.
