The Pottery Workshop Jingdezhen
The Pottery Workshop is a multi-faceted cultural institution, designed to promote and support the education of Ceramic Arts through their communities. The Pottery Workshop’s many facets live in four major cities in China; Hong Kong, Shanghai, Jingdezhen, and Dali. Each Pottery Workshop offers a resource of making and learning to its community, under one umbrella, they present a united educational platform for the growth of international ceramic artists, researchers, and students.
The Pottery Workshop welcomes international artists to experience life in Jingdezhen at the International Artist Residency. They provide the chance to explore traditional Chinese methods of ceramic production with comforts from the Western world. The porcelain city becomes your studio. All of the pieces the resident artists create are processed with the artisans in our community. They are located within The Sculpture Factory, a community of clay manufactures, throwers, flower sculptors, slip-casters, potters, glazers, and where public kilns coexist. Each artist is able to work closely with the studio coordinators to realize ideas through local craftspeople.
International resident artists should come prepared to create new work and realize new techniques within Ceramics and the porcelain that the city offers. This is a self-directed residency with shared translation and studio coordination included.
AC/heated semi-private studio spaces, the whole studio space is parceled into 12 spaces.
