Description
Orkney Arts Residency is located at Linkshouse, a large, detached property which is located in the rural parish of Birsay, on the Northwest coast of Mainland Orkney. Managed by the Pier Arts Centre, Linkshouse has recently been refurbished to a high standard.
The Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney was established in 1979 to provide a home for an important collection of British fine art donated by the author, peace activist and philanthropist Margaret Gardiner (1904 – 2005).
The Centre also curates a year-round programme of changing exhibitions and events for the education and enjoyment of the general public.
The Pier Arts Centre acts as a focal point for the local artistic community. It has a valuable library and archive which is accessible to the public and runs a programme of education and outreach activities for groups of all ages.
Accommodation Information
The property includes space for 5 working artists to stay on a self-catering basis. Rooms are either double or twin, each having their own bathroom, one of which is on the ground floor with accessible en-suite facilities. All guests have access to the communal living, kitchen, and large outside spaces. Additional rooms may be available if required for an extra charge, depending on availability.
