Peru Athens Artist Residency
Peru is an artist-run space in the center of the Athens. Through regular workshops for all levels and all ages, they aim in the promotion of the arts and especially painting , as a therapeutic process, enhancing mindfulness, focus, expanding creativity and fulfilment.
There are creative workshops, clay classes, painting seminars, life drawing and still life painting events, art talks, film screenings. The raise of dialogue and discussion concerning women artists and female identifying artists through art history till contemporary, is of main importance with a focus on the subject in presentations, talks, exhibitions, studio practices.
The communication part and exchange of ideas among creatives (but not only) is important. As an expansion of the effort they make through workshops and events, the artist residency is founded to give voice and space to as many artists and creatives as possible. The studio spaces are offered all year long as a place for contemplation, focus, creation, reflection, connection with yourself and others. Artists are free to work and create at their own space and time, with 24/7 access to the studio. Artists are welcome to join and participate in the workshops held in the afternoons and weekends, and are welcome to organise and hold a workshop of their own if they would wish to.
During the residency, emphasis is on creating a bonding environment and connecting with the art scene , art historians and curators , galleries and art spaces all participants.
There is the possibility of a two week exhibition at the end of each one's stay, upon discussion and if desired, with an additional cost. Furthermore, networking, participation in creative workshops
Peru is designed and equipped mainly as a studio space, therefor they cannot offer accomodation. They make sure that all participants find the perfect place to stay and connect them with hosts and great options to stay, in any case.
The space is located in Exarhia, a vibrant area, where locals and international communities come together all day long. It is an interesting neighbourhood with a long history, that once started as a gathering point for artists and poets, and continues to be that with its everchanging and distinctive character.
- Ground floor, with space for exhibitions and workshops (can be shared among three artists)
- Upper floor (suggested for one person)
- Option of renting the entire space privately, or share (prices vary upon this)
- Studios are fully equipped with easels, painting materials, shelves, desks, projector, mini fridge and coffee machine
- Art supplies store 3 minutes walk away.
The space is equipped with easels, painting and clay materials and tools and basic printing materials.
There is the option for the use of a projector and screen if needed.
Groups and partners are welcome upon proper arrangement and organisation.
