Description

Residents will be exceptional creative practitioners – including emerging, mid-career and established artists - who desire time and space to work on their projects. Residencies will be awarded based on the excellence and merit of the project proposal, and the applicant’s interest in and ability to work independently. Residents cannot be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, must be at least 21 years old, and must reside on-site for the duration of the program. International applicants will need to show proof of English language skills and will be responsible for acquiring appropriate visas if accepted.

Outcome

There is no expectation for art donations or public presentations, just a hope that artists will find it a place for deep experimentation and exploration.

Studio Information

The renovated 1,500 sq ft. hay barn studio has plenty of natural light, 20 ft. ceilings, track lights, and large center gallery area ideal for photographing work or performances. Each resident has 24-hour access to the barn, with a semi-private workspace and communal use of the center space. There is a garage door for ease in moving large materials in and out, and covered outdoor work space for working with materials requiring ventilation. The 15 acres offer opportunities for hiking, sketching, performances, installations, or a source of rusty or natural materials. Basic hand tools and large work tables are provided.

Accommodation Information

Residents live in a completely restored 1898 farmhouse with a private bedroom, shared kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, dining room, parlor, and laundry facilities. The rooms are furnished to feel like home, with original art and antique furniture. There are also several fire pits, outdoor seating areas, covered porch and gardens, a tiny pavilion that was once the creamery for the dairy farm, and open lawns for sport or dance. A car isn't necessary as residency directors provide transportation, and use of a shared bicycle. High-speed wifi is provided in the house and studio. Residents are welcome to pick produce and herbs from the organic gardens.
