Description

The Más allá de El Dorado Foundation is an organization dedicated to creation and promotion of critical, democratically based initiatives in the fields of art, culture, and the environment. In the context of ongoing cultural battle in Argentina, it focuses on collaborative and interdisciplinary practices that value the coexistence of human and non-human lives, and contribute to reflect on practices of colonialisms, feminisms and the environment crisis, as well as the relationship between people, information, and democracy. The residency is its main project.

The residency takes shape after the electoral campaign that brought a coalition of neo-conservative and extreme right parties to power in Argentina. In the context of the current cultural batle, it sees itself as an opportunity to highlight a space with historical, architectural and environmental importance. The house, surrounded by a tropical garden, was built in the 1940s and it is actually being restaured. Thats why It is more properly speaking a residence-in-progress.
It is located in Posadas, on the Paraná River. The city is the capital of the province of Misiones in the border triangle that Argentina integrates with Paraguay and Brazil. It is an area of tension, rich in mythologies that come from different ethnic groups that lived and live in this region, and others that emerged after the colonial rule in America. Its historical and geographical background and its current geopolitical situation provide a condensed and unique opportunity to gain experience about globalization and postcoloniality, and discuss them with other local people.
The residency offers artists the possibility of working in a friendly and quiet environment with the support of personalized mentoring sessions of its coordinators and other collaborators of the team. The organisers provide contact with experts, specific areas and places of interest related to research processses, and promote access to communal spaces for collaboration and networking with the local art scene and the public at large.

The programme offers:
-support from their team
-the possibility of publishing with the Neaconatus editorial seal distributed by the National University of Misiones (editorial design and printing costs not included).
-residents can collaborate in its digital magazine (without costs) aimed at promoting literary activity in the NEA (Northeast Region).
-acces to an electronic potter's wheel for residents interest in producing ceramic pieces as part of their work, or just for experimenting with this medium (electricity costs are not included)

Outcome

The residence may include a specific outcome like an art work, a workshop, artists talk, cooperations, interventions, cultural actions to raise awareness on specific themes, among other. It provides artists with a platform to present their projects and connect with the local community. If you like to focus on your process whitout regarding any outcome you are also welcome. People interest in being part of the restauration process by contributing with their ideas and skills, and/or collaborating in activities of care of the garden or the house, are very wellcome.
