
Machaqmara Center for the Arts
Machaqmara Center for the Arts is a space that aims to support and develop the creativity and knowledge of the artists in residence. The mission is to encourage the support and development of creativity and knowledge among the resident artists whilst having them participate in a platform of uninterrupted, thoughtful, balanced work while sharing artistic skills and joining in on overall interactive activities in an environment of great natural beauty. The residency program gathers ten artists; emerging, in progress or already consolidated, national or international, from all over the world and from different artistic disciplines. They will be together for two weeks making use of the accommodations at the Gad Gha Kum Art Hotel, in contact with native communities from the surrounding area and where they can experiment the limits of free artistic creation.
They want to keep one artwork developed by the artist during the residence program as part of their art collection with the purpose of making the project sustainable and for the benefit of local native communities.
Machaqmara Center for the Arts is a well-equipped facility with two shared studios, and common use wood, metal and sculpture studio also a drawing & painting - reading studio. They provide twenty-four hour access to the Center’s facility and offer staff support Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
4 Beds, Bathroom equipt with warm water, closets in a shared bedroom. In a shared space: cable television, Wifi , library, work tables, food and basic hygiene dispensers, ecological waste baskets, hammocks.
During the two weeks of residence they offer the artists in residence two different workshops, taught by natives of the Ashaninka and Yanesha Communities.
Machaqmara enjoys an area of 123.90 hectares, the same which are destined to the conservation of the flora and fauna and keeping the ecosystem in healthy conditions. The geographical conditions are great for the development of activities in ecotourism and adventure tourism; an exotic tropical valley in delightful warm weather, magical waterfalls, exuberant nature at the tourists easy access. The proximity to different native communities allows for the development of ruraltourism.
