Description

The Les Hauts de Sancerre welcomes authors seeking calm, inspiration, and time to create. Located in the Château de Sancerre and its gardens, overlooking the vineyards, it offers eight rooms in a historic and light-filled setting. Writers work on their personal projects while drawing inspiration from the unique atmosphere of the estate and the Tour des Fiefs, with access to quiet spaces and breakfast included. In return, they are invited to share texts or journals inspired by the place and contribute to its cultural promotion.

This winter, Les Hauts de Sancerre opens its doors to writers seeking calm, time and inspiration. Set among the vineyards, the château’s stone walls and the historic Tour des Fiefs, we welcome authors to write, observe, and create. Writers are invited to work on their personal projects while drawing inspiration from the history and unique atmosphere of the place.

Outcome

Texts or excerpts inspired by the place; optionally: a public reading or a residency journal to be shared on their channels.

The Les Hauts de Sancerre Writers’ Residency is designed to welcome authors seeking calm, inspiration, and uninterrupted time to develop their literary projects. The residency provides a serene environment in a historic château surrounded by vineyards, gardens, and the Tour des Fiefs.

The residency is located in the Château de Sancerre, in the heart of the Sancerre vineyards (Centre-Val de Loire, France). The estate offers unique historical and scenic surroundings, combining restored château architecture, gardens, and panoramic vineyard views. The presence of the Tour des Fiefs under restoration adds a distinctive cultural and historical dimension to the residency experience.

The artists will enjoy elegant, quiet rooms in the château, including access to common areas, gardens, and reading spaces. Breakfast is included.

Studio Information

There is no dedicated studio; however, residents have access to quiet rooms, writing desks, and spaces throughout the château and gardens for focused work. The residency is designed for individual writers only. Non-artist partners and children are not accommodated.
