Description

Le Wonder, a non-profit association founded in 2013, is a collective of contemporary artists who transform large abandoned complexes in the suburbs of Paris into spaces for creation, dissemination, and social connection. The collective's DNA lies in its commitment: to collectively organize a space for contemporary work and creation for young artists, offering shared equipment and low-cost workshops. Le Wonder is an independent project where experimentation and creation are essential; it is a place of constant intersections and exchanges between artists, disciplines, and practices. Le Wonder wishes to welcome two residents within the image/printing/publishing department in their new building in Bobigny. This current call is open to publishers, micro-publishers, graphic designers, illustrators, image-makers, or any other practice related to the subject of books. Books, zines, and posters are already present in the various practices of the residents. Thanks to our printing department equipped with a Riso duplicator (6 drums), a Xerox machine, a hydraulic cutter, a glue binder, a small silkscreen equipment, and a large stock of paper, it is possible to develop and create various editorial objects.

The shared spaces (exhibition room, terrace, parking, kitchen) are also open spaces for organizing events, exhibitions, readings, conferences, and more.

Outcome

The resident can propose to present the outcome of his/her time at Le Wonder/Fortin in the form of a studio visit, conference, workshop, screening, banquet or piracy of the FM band.

Studio Information

They offer two office/studio spaces to be shared in a 50 m2 area located next to the 35 m2 printing machine area. A third vacant office will be used to accommodate international resident artists at Wonder and visiting publishers/illustrators/graphic designers who are eager to experiment, produce, or collaborate within the printing workshop.

Accommodation Information

Le Wonder provides residents housing, an individual studio and well as access to the different production departments according to desire and projects. There is a large, fully-equipped open kitchen space allowing meal preparation for several dozen people, as well as DIY and experimental equipment (smoking room, dryer, fryer, barbecue, etc.)

Technical Information

The collective has fitted out and rehabilitated a 3000m2 former printing house on 3 levels. It is organized in different production centres, offering collective workshops depending on the practices. An artist from the collective manages each department independently and coordinates with the resident artists. The association regularly invests in order to enrich its production means.
