L’AiR Arts
L’AiR Arts is committed to supporting intercultural artistic exchange through international arts residency programs, while promoting diversity, inclusion and international understanding through artistic and cultural heritage. Just like L’AiR Arts historical base at Atelier 11, our residency program mirrors the symbol for equality, = a horizontal exchange between artists and cultural professionals from various cultural backgrounds, of different ages and genders, working in various disciplines and at all stages of their professional careers.
Located in Montparnasse, known as a historic hub for international artists in the beginning of the 20th century, L’AiR Arts residency program grounds its commitment to contemporary arts within a historical perspective. Focusing on intercultural artistic exchange as the legacy of the École de Paris, the residency not only provides the opportunity to explore Paris and have a space in which to comfortably stay and work, it also offers an insider’s view into the important role that international artists have played in Paris from the late 19th century to the present day. L’AiR Arts residency program is supported by 4 main pillars: intercultural exchange; research; professional development and contemporary creation.
The purpose of the multidisciplinary residency programs is to foster cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations between international artists and cultural professionals and the local art ecosystem. During the residency, participating artists and cultural professionals build lasting connections with the fellow residents, expand their network, and present their work. An experimental multidisciplinary platform, L'AiR Arts residency program offers opportunities for self-directed projects that run parallel to curated group programs, arts residencies for local professionals, partner programs and events open to a broader community.
In 2021, L’AiR Arts Association has initiated a cultural heritage project of transforming a historical artists atelier in Paris into an International Arts Research Residency dedicated to the intercultural artistic exchange.
Built in the 1870s as an artist-led initiative to provide artists with affordable studios, for 150 years Cité Falguière has served as a working and living place to more than a hundred French and foreign artists, including world-renowned Amedeo Modigliani, Chaïm Soutine, Tsuguharu Foujita, Constantin Brancusi, and Paul Gauguin. To safeguard the artistic heritage of this remarkable community and to continue its legacy within contemporary culture, the aim of this project is to celebrate the significance of the last remaining atelier - Atelier 11 as the longest-lasting international residency that accepted and nurtured many artists throughout its artistic history.
