La Porte Peinte Centre pour les Arts
La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy that is recognized as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building that leans out over the village square like something from a fairy tale, La Porte Peinte offers artists, makers, musicians and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange in an unusually inspiring and supportive environment. There is a gallery, shop and café on the ground floor, allowing for various forms of engagement with the community.
For invitational residencies, there may sometimes be a workshop, talk, exhibition, or artwork donation requested.
All studio spaces are private. There are two large visual arts studios with garden access, one smaller studio suited to "clean" visual artwork or writing, two studios suited to writing, music, or visual art, one simple photography darkroom, one library that may be used as a studio for music or writing, and a covered barn space that is suitable for dance, sculpture, or any type of artistic pursuit.
There are five bedrooms in the main building and four further bedrooms in the annex. Bedrooms are simply decorated and comfortable. Most have private baths.
9 residents can be hosted at once. Individual, duos, or groups are all considered. Non-artist partners are welcome. Family residencies are encouraged.
Library, some sound equipment, a printer.
