La Kunsthalle Mulhouse
The Kunsthalle is the Contemporary Art Centre of National Interest of the City of Mulhouse, located in the Foundry, a converted former industrial building, which it shares with the University of Haute-Alsace, the city's archives and the Ateliers Pédagogiques d'Arts Plastiques. With three exhibitions per year, it promotes and fosters artistic creation, both regionally and nationally and internationally. It is aimed at all audiences through one-off or regular meetings, always in connection with the exhibitions. It is developing an important cultural mediation program by offering a wide range of visits.
The Kunsthalle is an open and radiant place thanks to a project based on exchange and research that includes the principle of inviting curators and major artists. It is also a place of experimentation that gives a chance to promising young figures.
On the basis of various regional or international programmes, the Kunsthalle welcomes artists in residence, thus affirming its role as a place of research, creation and production.
- Curatorial residency: an exhibition curator is welcomed for a time of research and discovery of the artists of the territory. The aim is to create dialogue and encounters between artists from Mulhouse and curators from other regions or countries.
- Young Creation Residency: on the occasion of this annual residency program designed to promote and support young French artists, they are given the opportunity to acquire a first professional experience, work and encounters, outside their territory of origin.
- Atelier Mondial residency: The Kunsthalle is a partner of this international exchange and residency programme for artists from the Upper Rhine. Atelier Mondial awards 3 to 6 month travel and/or research grants to about twenty destinations around the world. Each year, the Kunsthalle welcomes a Mexican artist with a textile-related practice.
