Description

La Ira de Dios (LID) is an independent non-profit institution in Buenos Aires, Argentina. LID facilitates artistic exchange and develops the practice of contemporary art through residencies, associations and public programs. Its main objective is to provide a space for experimentation, reflection and exchange between national and international artists and researchers. Since 2010 they organized more than 40 exhibitions, and more than 80 artists and curators from 24 countries participated in the residency programs.
In 2018 LID begins a new stage by moving its residency programs to cheLA, a center for experimentation in art, technology and community-based in an old industrial building with 5000 m2. cheLA –an initiative of Fundación EXACTA and the Digital Cultures Program of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)– is a space created to promote creation in art, technology and transdisciplinary research.

They host three intensive residency programs per year. For each program, they select a group up to 10 international and local artists, curators and researchers. The group shares working spaces and participates in a number of activities as each one immerses in new or ongoing projects. They also receive artists in individual basis all year. The program is structured to create a space of creative exchange for a group of international and local artist, curators, and researchers.
The residency culminates in an open studio which is an integral part of the program of exhibitions. The schedule of activities also includes visits to relevant art spaces in Buenos Aires, open presentations of the participants, and visits from other educational programs, artists, curators, and critics. Participants are expected to contribute actively to the workshop and research activities in addition to sharing their individual experiences with other residents.

Outcome

The program brings together a group of artist to work in a common space on a free environment, where artists and curators develop the projects they choose. The agenda of activities includes visits to art studios, galleries, and other projects and institutions, public presentations and a final exhibition.

Studio Information

The group shares working spaces. The building is a 5000 square meters former factory with big spaces for artistic projects, a big patio, among other facilities.

Accommodation Information

The building has two living areas, with 4 single and 3 double rooms, 2 kitchen spaces, and living rooms.

Technical Information

Studio space, basic tools, visits, internet connection, input and support from our board of gallery directors, curators and workshop leaders.

Location

LID is located in the Villa Crespo neighborhood of Buenos Aires at the heart of Argentina’s dynamic contemporary art scene. Bordered by the Palermo neighborhood, Villa Crespo is at the nexus of Buenos Aires art activity, situating LID in the midst of several galleries and attracting a bevy of international artists and media. The original gallery is located in a landmark building for the arts in Buenos Aires that began as a collective effort in 2007 to create a space for galleries and professional artists. In order to expand on our initiative to be a site for dynamic exchange, artistic practice and innovations in media, LID opened a 500 square meter warehouse with new studios and exhibition spaces two blocks away from our formal gallery space.
