KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre, located in the municipality of li in Northern Finland, offers two residency programmes that allow artists to explore and develop their artistic practice, collaborate with locals and be inspired by the surrounding environment.
Art professionals, such as artists, curators and researchers are welcome to apply to the KulttuuriKauppila residency programmes. The KulttuuriKauppila Artist-in-Residence (KK AiR) programme offers artists a unique environment to focus on their artistic practice and research. The KulttuuriKauppila Artist-in-Community programme (KK AiC) hosts socially engaged art projects that give artists an opportunity to work with the surrounding community and build cooperation with relevant local actors.
The residency period will be tailored for each artist or artist group according to the artists’ own project plan. The organizers are happy to facilitate interaction with the local community
- KK AiR possibilities: Exhibition, master class, open studio, workshop, collaboration with schools or other groups. It is recommended for the artist to have maximum one event or production per month.
- KK AiC: Artistic process that includes the community, workshop or presentation; other possible outcomes.
The spacious guest studio (45 m2) shared between the guest artists has cabinet space, tables, good spotlights and a large variety of tools and equipment. Natural light falls beautifully into the space through the many windows.
The fully furnished residency space includes two private rooms with a shared studio space, kitchen and bathroom making it comfortable for individual artists as well as artist groups. The rooms have beds for 1-2 persons, cabinets and desks.
KulttuuriKauppila Art Centre is located by the river Ii in an idyllic area rich in culture and tradition. The Centre houses two buildings: the residence built in the 1800s and the atelier built in 2006. The residency located in an idyllic cultural heritage site is surrounded by an active village community.
