Description

An artist-run collective workshop in Bohuslän, Sweden, existing to provide professional artists with professionally equipped workshops for various techniques and materials, and also to be a stimulating meeting place. They have workshops for printing, ceramics, textiles, tufting, stone, wood, metal and photography (both digital and analog). The workshops are normally accessible for members only, but through the residency programme an opportunity is given to all professional artists to work there.

They welcome professional artists to apply for the AIR and come and work in the workshops. To qualify you must already have sufficiently good knowledge of the subject to be able to work independently. When the artist arrives, they will be introduced to the workshops by the workshop managers.
The residency is situated in the countryside with artist-dense area which, together with the local community, creates a valuable meeting place both between artist and between artists and the local community. The social infrastructure is well-functioning which gives the opportunity to enjoy social events as much or as little as you want.

Outcome

There are no expectations that the artist has to produce or show their work in any way (even though it would be much appreciated). The focus of the residency is to have time and space to do their work.

Studio Information

Accepted artist will have free access to their choice of workshop/studio during the residency. The workshops include some equipment (other can be rented or used for a fee) see theiir website for more specifics regarding what each workshop contains.
There are limited options of artistic material nearby (except clay, stone, wood and metal) so they recommend that you bring what you may need or send it/order it in advance.

Accommodation Information

Accommodation is provided in a private room with shared kitchen, bathroom, toilet and laundry room. The rooms are in a newly built facility on the premises so the workshops are close by. Food is not included but the kitchen is fully equipped and there is storage space for your food in fridges and cabinets. The nearest store is 4 km away. There is a café on the premises that is open on weekends and some weekdays.

Location

KKV-B is in the middle of a landscape with small, but monumental mountains, pastures, fields and forests. And beyond lies the sea and the archipelago with bare islands and vegetation that crouches in the wind. There are many nice bathing spots in the area and opportunities for sailing and fishing. In summer, there is also a large selection of restaurants and cafes along the coast.

The area has an interesting cultural history with a world-unique occurrence of rock carvings and many well-preserved coastal communities. Three miles to the north are several world heritage sites and the Vitlycke rock carving museum
