Kobe Bottle Art Residence 2023 for Asian Artist
Naked Craft Project connects local and global networks and makes cultural bridges between World and Nagata, Kobe, Hyogo, and Japan through artists. This open-call program offers the opportunity to practice, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and other activities for one contemporary artist, with Naked Craft support providing assistance every step of the way from the planning stage and research.
One of the main aims of this residency program is to re-discover the value of glass bottles and appeal to artist work to the community and the wider world.
Background: Nagata town, in Kobe City, has soul drinks called “Ramune” and “Apple”. These beverages have been sold in returnable glass bottles. These are collected from the customers, are washed and sterilized, refilled with beverages, and sent back to customers repeatedly. The circulation of the bottles stimulates the compact local distribution and communication in the community.
