The Emerging Writer-in-Residence must be an emerging writer and have proven application to the craft of writing. This means some published material in print, visual or broadcast media. Ideally applicants should be working towards achieving their first major piece of writing.

⚠️ Due to COVID-19, residencies are now only open to Australian or Western Australian writers, depending on the category. Regionally-based and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) writers are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be current KSP members. Regarding specific criteria for each residency category, please refer to the category guidelines to ensure your eligibility before applying. The Selection Panel will be looking for talented writers able to show application to the craft of writing.

The Katharine Susannah Prichard Writers' Centre is the oldest writers centre of its kind in Australia. It encourages and facilitates writers' readings, workshops, writers in residence and other services whilst preserving the heritage value of the former home of leading Australian writer, Katharine Susannah Prichard.

Studio Information

Workspace and accommodation in a heritage-listed house, the former home of Katharine Susannah Prichard, are provided. Alternative writing space in Katharine's cottage is also available.

Accommodation Information

The KSP Writers Centre provides three individual and self contained retreats set among the trees in the garden for writers. Each retreat can sleep two, has its own ensuite shower and toilet, is equipped with reverse cycle air conditioning, cooking facilities and has access to Internet broadband.

Location

In the hills east of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. 25 minutes from the city but far away from the noise and the stress. The centre is surrounded by gardens and Australian flora in which you can sit and read or work on your writing in peace and serenity. It has a very encouraging and inspiring atmosphere and community.
