Karuizawa Mokuhanga School
They teach mokuhanga - Japanese woodblock printmaking and provide a studio for practicing mokuhanga artists.
Artists can stay in a fully equipped mokuhanga studio, in a traditional Japanese house. Suitable for beginners or professional artists, the residency is run by a professional and qualified Mokuhanga artist. Participants can stay, learn and be inspired by an authentic Japanese learning environment.

Learn fundamental mokuhanga printmaking skills, extend existing skills and produce limited edition original works in Japanese woodblock printmaking.
We have two shared studio spaces - one for design and carving, the other for printing. Studios may be used as much as participants want, with consideration for other people staying. We have a small library of mokuhanga related books, and all tools are available for use. Materials are provided for initial learning project. We have a supply of tools, equipment and materials available for purchase.
We are set up for individual artists, workshop for up to 5 people may be available on request. (accommodation not provided).
We have two options, both are traditional Japanese tatami rooms. One is a private room, the other larger room is split by a screen and two people can share. All facilities are shared. Fully equipped kitchen is provided, bathroom and toilet,washing machine. and bicycles are also provided. Unlimited internet. Partner can share the private room for an additional cost.
