A round-trip airfare allowance of up to 200,000 JPY for overseas residents and up to 75,000 JPY for domestic residents will be provided, including transportation from the airport to Kamiyama. The living cost allowance of 200,000 JPY will be provided during the stay for the Artist, along with a material allowance of up to 250,000 JPY. (Note: If the Artist arrives late or departs early from the KAIR program, the living allowance will be adjusted proportionally.) KAIR will cover living costs such as electricity, gas, and water, and will provide essential daily housekeeping items, as well as access to a shared car, scooter, or bicycle (for in-town use only).

The Artist must pay the expense for the transportation of goods or materials and travel insurance (for injury and sickness) for the duration of residence.

Description

Creating "Global Kamiyama" is the main purpose behind the KAIR Project. Their hope is that the artists will produce works full of originality, influenced by the experience of spending time amidst the timeless nature of Kamiyama, deep in the Japanese countryside, and inspiration from interacting with the local people. Through the works created by the artists as they come into contact with the tangible and intangible ‘God’s Mountain’ (the meaning of ’Kamiyama’), they hope to be able to discover what impact ‘encounters with the unknown’ has upon the artists and the community itself.

Outcome

To produce at least of one piece of art and give a presentation about the work.

Accommodation Information

The KAIR will provide each artist with a two-story ferroconcrete house, approximately 60m² (650ft²), which includes a kitchen, shower, toilet, and three tatami rooms. If the Artist wish to be accompanied by a spouse, partner, assistant or child, the Artist must consult with the committee at the time of application to the program.

Studio Information

The KAIR will provide a studio at a school or other place for the artist.

Location

A town with a population of approximately 4,500, located in central Tokushima Prefecture and surrounded by mountains and lush greenery.
