  • Accommodation and studio.
  • Assistant: International resident artists who have difficulties in the Chinese language can indicate their need for an assistant. The museum will help the artist to post their recruitment on the museum's official social media platforms.
Paid by artist:
  • Travelling expenses to and from Beijing.
  • The materials fee for studio activities.
  • Living expenses during the Residency period.
  • Other expenses to be incurred during residency such as allowance for an assistant, visa and health insurance.
Application guidelines:

Each stay lasts for 4 weeks. Please send the following materials to [email protected]:

  • Residency statement (A4 one-page in English or two pages in Chinese) explaining your work plan in Beijing;
  • Portfolio;
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • A photo.

The organisers strongly suggest that you submit your application proposal 3 months before the starting date of your residency, leaving enough time for travelling preparation. It usually takes them two weeks to get back to you with the result.

Description

The artist residency program at Inside-Out Art Museum (IOAM) is dedicated to be a non-profit public platform to promote and support young emerging artists, as well as to foster greater interactions between China’s and the international art communities. Through the programme, a multifarious art environment will thus be created that gives rise to different international emerging artists to develop meaningful interactions and collaborations with one another.

They accept applications from both visual artists and curators in China as well as from abroad. Located in hte outskirts of the Beijing metropolis, the art museum sits near the borders of hilly regions – an ideal location that offers an undisturbed ambiance for participating artists to devote their time and effort to the making of their art. Through this program, they would like to see the involved artists’ careers and development break into new frontiers as a result of the fresh artistic inspirations gained.

 

Outcome

The artist in asked to cooperate with Inside-Out for its promotional arrangement of the exhibition, and activities of social and public education. They require artist hold at least one public event during residency.

Studio Information

Shared studio for 1-2 artists.

Accommodation Information

Two private bedrooms and a shared living room for resident artists. As part of the residency, there will also be basic furniture and household appliances provided for the artists’ use. Resident artists can also make use of the kitchen and the utensils for their own convenience.
