The mission of Graylag Nature Preserve is to connect people and communities to nature by protecting forested lands and watersheds, preserving open space, and offering educational programs and residencies.
At Graylag, individuals, families, and groups can immerse in the natural world, discovering deeper connections with nature, themselves, and one another. Visitors can come for a week, several days, or a few hours. They can take a break from technology and learn from the natural world that surrounds us.

Graylag Nature Preserve Inc. was established in 2019 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

The Graylag Artist Residency is a dynamic program designed to foster the intersection of creativity and nature. Located in the scenic Graylag Nature Preserve in rural New England, this residency offers artists an immersive environment where creativity can thrive in direct connection with the natural world. Through this residency, the organizers seek to cultivate a vibrant exchange of ideas between visiting artists and the local community. By providing artists with time and space to create, reflect, and collaborate, they offer a rare opportunity for artistic growth and community engagement.

This residency is more than a retreat—it is a catalyst for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and inspiration. The organizers believe that creativity flourishes in relationship with the land, and they invite artists to explore how nature informs their work while also contributing to the community through shared experiences. Whether through workshops, talks, or new ways of engaging with the environment, artists will play a vital role in strengthening the ties between art, nature, and conservation.

2025 marks the launch of the Graylag Artist Residency. As this is the inaugural year, they are looking for artists who are not only excited to immerse themselves in their work but also open to the opportunity to help shape the foundation of this program.
