Eligibility criteria:

The residency is open to independent artists and arts practitioners from any artistic discipline or medium. Applicants must be at least 20 years old, with no upper age limit. Taiwanese citizens and foreign nationals holding a valid Taiwan Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) are eligible to apply. Applicants should have basic communication skills in either Mandarin Chinese or English.

Application guidelines:

Applicants should submit the application form, artist CV, documentation of previous work, an artist statement, and a residency project proposal. The proposed project should demonstrate the applicant’s artistic practice and explain how the residency environment, local context and resources of Grand View Art Village relate to their proposed research or creative process.

Applications will be reviewed in two stages. The preliminary selection will be based on the applicant’s previous work and proposed project. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person interview at Grand View Art Village on November 4, 2026, and should prepare presentation materials for the interview. The final selection will consider the applicant’s ability to carry out the proposed residency project and its connection to the local context.

Description

Grand View Art Village (GVAV) is an artist residency programme located in Xinpu Township, Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Situated in a rural landscape surrounded by hills, rivers, agricultural land and Hakka communities, GVAV provides artists with a space to live, work and develop their artistic practice in close connection with the local environment and culture.

The residency welcomes artists from different disciplines, media and forms of practice, including interdisciplinary and research-based approaches. Residents are encouraged to explore the relationships between art, nature, local stories, cultural memory and community through artistic production, everyday life, observation and exchange.

GVAV provides private accommodation and individual studio spaces, as well as shared facilities and access to various spaces across the art village, including an exhibition hall, salon, kiln area, lakeside teahouse, outdoor theatre and natural surroundings. Residents may also participate in local cultural activities, community exchange, workshops and public programmes.

The residency aims to create an open environment for artistic experimentation, dialogue and exchange, while connecting contemporary artistic practice with the local landscape, culture and community.

Outcome

Residents are expected to develop their artistic practice and residency projects through research, creation, exchange and engagement with the local environment and community. During the residency, each resident will participate in at least three public activities, including two open studio events and one final presentation. Residents may also participate in workshops, educational activities and other public programmes organized by Grand View Art Village.

Within one month after completing the residency, each resident is required to complete and donate one artwork to Grand View Art Village.

Accommodation Information

Each resident is provided with a private accommodation space at Grand View Art Village. Residents share communal facilities, including a kitchen and dining area, refrigerator, drinking water facilities, laundry facilities and a shared lounge. Shared electric bicycles are also available for local transportation.

Studio Information

Each resident is provided with a private, independent studio space for artistic production. Residents may also apply to use additional spaces and facilities according to their project needs, including the kiln area, lakeside teahouse, outdoor stove area, Olive Environmental Theatre and surrounding natural environment. The exhibition hall and multifunctional salon are also available for exhibitions, professional exchange and collaborative projects.
