In GlogauAIR artists from diverse social and geographical backgrounds find a place to develop their works in a dynamic environment of coexistence, exchange of ideas and internationalization. At the same time they get to know a new culture and landscape in Berlin, getting influences from de city, which has became a pioneer place for contemporary culture.
The non profit organization GlogauAIR was founded by the Spanish artist Chema Alvargonzález in 2006 with the intention to create a meeting point between artists from all disciplines to work in collaboration, expanding their practice in terms of materials, formats and style. Parallel to the residency program and the open studios GlogauAIR organizes activities and exchange projects in collaboration with other institutions such as video art, sound art or performance festivals, exhibitions or artist presentations, where they invite local public, art lovers and professionals.
Taking part in a Residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin, 13 international artists, with diverse social and geographical backgrounds, will receive curatorial support, technical support and develop their work in a dynamic community. At the same time they will get to know a new culture and landscape, getting influences from Berlin, renowned for its contemporary culture.
During the Residency each artist will have one studio at GlogauAIR’s Studios, having the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in a creative process as well as share ideas and opinions with the other artists in residence. Due to the activities related to the program we can only accept residencies of three or six months. GlogauAIR’s Artistic Program is open to everyone everywhere, and in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic we have shifted towards working also virtually for this program.
GlogauAIR’s On-line Program is open since March 2020 to all nationalities and art disciplines. As much as we love creating and being together, in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic we have added a virtual option of our residency program. We bring artists together on-line: to discuss, work, collaborate and be engaged and inspired.
The program includes curatorial support, regular group meetings, talks by experts and workshops. The artists are asked to work from their homes or personal studios, using material they can source.
Every three months doors are open to the public in the form of Open Studios exhibition, where the artists show their work in a site-specific and process based format. For the occasion GlogauAIR edits a small catalogue with texts and photos by the artists. Besides the Open Studios exhibition, GlogauAIR invites curators and other cultural initiatives to exhibit their works in its project space on the ground floor of the building. Note that Artists are required to present work and attend each Open Studio within their residency period.
