GlogauAIR’s Residency Program (On-site & On-line) is open to artists of all nationalities and disciplines.

Whether you wish to join them in Berlin or connect from your own studio elsewhere in the world, both programs offer a platform for artistic development, curatorial guidance, international exchange, and professional growth.

The residency includes curatorial support, mentoring sessions, regular group meetings, expert talks, and workshops. On-site residents work from live-in studios in Berlin; On-line residents participate remotely through a flexible, time zone-aware schedule.

Description

GlogauAIR is a non-profit art space and residency for all types of artists located in Kreuzberg, Berlin. They welcome applications from all around the world and various backgrounds and artistic disciplines. Focused on the principles of exploring, creating, and exhibiting, the residency offers an On-site and On-line program for international artists of all fields.

Artists in GlogauAIR’s On-site Residency Program live and work in one of thirteen studios. They receive curatorial and technical support, as well as a diverse program that aims to help them in their professional careers; encouraging not only the development of the artist’s work but also the opportunity to share ideas and opinions with the other artists.

Through the On-line Program, the artist has the opportunity to receive curatorial support, regular group meetings, talks by experts, and workshops, from their homes or personal studios located anywhere in the world. This On-line program was set up as a result of the challenges faced in 2020. Far from letting this stop us, we expanded our program to make it available for artists who can’t join us physically in Berlin.

The applications are reviewed by GlogauAIR’s team which is comprised of local and international art professionals.

Outcome

Every three months, GlogauAIR opens its doors (both physical and virtual) for the Open Studios exhibition, where residents present their work in a process-based and site-specific format. Artists participating onsite exhibit in GlogauAIR’s Berlin space, while online residents showcase their projects through a specially designed digital platform.

A printed and digital catalogue is produced for each edition, featuring texts and images provided by all residents. During their residency, artists are expected to participate in the Open Studios, whether in-person or online.

Alongside the exhibitions, GlogauAIR invites curators and cultural initiatives to use its project space for independent exhibitions and events.

Accommodation Information

Each floor has shared kitchen, shower, WC and WIFI, basic expenses (maintenance, gas, electricity, and internet) are included. The kitchens are fully equipped and the studios have a double sofa bed with bed linen, table, chairs, desk lamp/bed lamp, wardrobe and shelves. They can provide extra furniture if available or, if you have visitors, an extra mattress and bedding. There is also garden and backyard for common use.

Studio Information

There are 13 live/work studios distributed over 3 floors. Each floor has shared kitchen, shower, WC and WIFI, basic expenses (maintenance, gas, electricity, and internet) are included. The kitchens are fully equipped and the studios have a double sofa bed with bed linen, table, chairs, desk lamp / bed lamp, wardrobe and shelves.

Technical Information
  • Basic technical equipment (you have the right to use the equipment when is available): 4 video-projectors, 6 dvd players, 4 loudspeakers, 4 flat-screen monitors, 1 scanner
  • Basic tools: hammer, saw, auger, screwdriver, monkey wrench, screws, bulbs and lighting, white wall painting, roller.
Location

GlogauAIR is based in the active area of Kreuzberg and close to big green areas such as the Landwehrkanal riverside and the Gorlitzerpark. The building was designed in 1896 by the architect Ludwig Hoffman to be a Primary School. Its organic and practical distribution gives a comfortable, bright and familiar atmosphere to the 10 studios distributed in two floors.
