Description

Geneto Art Foundation, established in 2019 and based in Kyoto, Japan, is an independent cultural organisation dedicated to supporting international artistic exchange. Through artist residencies, exhibitions, research, and educational initiatives, the foundation connects contemporary artists with Japan’s cultural heritage, local communities, and international audiences.

The Geneto Art Foundation Artist-in-Residence Programme welcomes contemporary artists from around the world to live and work in Kyoto for short-term residencies of up to 60 days. Based at Art Cottage No.2, the programme offers artists time and space for research, artistic production, and cultural exchange within one of Japan’s most historically and creatively significant cities.

Artists are encouraged to engage with Kyoto’s architecture, craftsmanship, spirituality, local communities, and contemporary creative scene. The programme combines accommodation, studio space, professional support, and opportunities for exhibitions, presentations, and international networking through the Geneto Art Foundation and Geneto Group.

Outcome

The residency is designed to produce meaningful artistic and cultural outcomes, such as
* New artworks created during the residency
* Solo exhibition
* Artist talks or public presentations
* Research and cultural exchange projects
* Documentary films and artist interviews
* Professional photography and promotional materials
* International media and online exposure
* Long-term collaborations with Japanese cultural institutions and creative professionals

The foundation documents each residency through visual storytelling, interviews, photography, and video production, helping artists share both their creative process and completed work with audiences in Japan and internationally.
