Fondation Thalie
Created in 2014 by Nathalie Guiot, collector, curator, and editor, the Fondation Thalie is a private art foundation. Through a multidisciplinary program, a residency, and the exhibits, the Foundation wants to perpetuate a unique and lively dynamic in a house of art and beyond the walls with satellite projects. Each exhibit demonstrates the support for contemporary creation by way of commissions which are sometimes tied to acquisitions or the architecture of the house in Brussels.
If you are in the field of creating, are living outside of Belgium, and you would like to spend some time researching and sharing it in an inspiring house, Fondation Thalie offers a place of work in an intimate and domestic space in Brussels. The aim of the residency is to support and accompany a reflexive way of thinking and artistic practices that give way to new imaginaries regarding the green transition.
Fondation Thalie‘s mission is to support contemporary creation as a lever for action, exchange and transmission. It promotes dialogue between disciplines and is particularly interested in revitalizing the work of crafts in today’s artistic practices.
The foundation works to defend attention to know-how, the place of women in the field of art history, as well as artistic practices conscious of climate change (design and production questioning planetary limits, bio-sourced materials…). The Foundation organizes two annual exhibitions, artistic awareness workshops and a program of events and podcasts “Parole de créateurs face à l’urgence écologique”. The Foundation also publishes contemporary poetry dedicated to ecology.
Open to the public, the restitution will show the result of the research carried out during the residency. It will be designed by the resident with the residency coordinator. The Foundation encourages the residents to allow for times of exchange with the public and professionals, in the form of workshops, readings, etc.
Equipment and support of the permanent residence at the Fondation Thalie consist of:
- 2 working spaces (20-25 m2 each) suitable for writing
- Accommodation (3 rooms), kitchen and common living room, Wi-Fi
- Logistical support
- Visits to workshops and contact with the artistic community in Brussels
The accomodation is located in the center of the city of Brussels.
Based in a neo-modernist house in the heart of Brussels since 2018, the Foundation exhibits both historic and emerging international artists in addition to an art collection; it also offers online events about environmental issues along with an artist and author residency in Brussels. A new space will be opening in Arles in the Spring of 2023.
